McCracken IrisMcCRACKEN, Iris Carrington - (May 10, 1925March 11, 2021) - Iris left peacefully on her last journey with her daughter Monique and son-in-law Jamie at her side. We are saddened but know that she will be lighting up the lives of those who receive her on the other side in her travels.

Iris was born in Toronto and studied Journalism and Public Administration at Lincoln University in Missouri. She was the first of her family of 6 brothers and sisters to graduate University.

Iris had a storied career; Writer, Producer at CBC, Executive Director of Montreal YWCA, Administrative services at Family Services Montreal. The second half of her career took her to the Canadian North where she was an Operations Manager for CBC Northern Radio Rankin Inlet, Frobisher Bay (Iqualuit), Development Coordinator, Iqaluit, and Co-ordinator of the Family Violence Prevention Plan Yellowknife.

Iris loved people and gave freely of her time and expertise. Community was important to her and she was a founding member of the Black Studies Centre; Negro Theatre Arts C; and the National Congress of Black Women.

In retirement, Iris discovered the organization Elderhostel, now Road Scholar where seniors like herself travelled the world to learn, meet new people and cultures. Iris loved seeing new places and at the same time have the opportunity to explore new interests and academic studies.

Iris also loved her cottage in Pine Hill, Lachute. Many fond memories were made with family members and fellow Pine Hill residents over the year. Iris continued to travel up until the age of 93; a tireless trailblazer and bon vivant.

Iris leaves her beloved daughter Monique and son-in-law Jamie Robertson and 4 beloved grandsons; Justin, Drew, Kamil and Ryan, as well as sister Myrtle, Sisters-in-Law Patricia and Janet and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Hilda and Beresford Carrington and brothers Donnie, Vincent, Connie and Martin.

The family also would like to thank the Donway Place, Iris’ last home for their special care and compassion and Donway Place’s ED Lynn Jennings who showed great empathy and leadership. A special mention must be made to the PSW’s, Nurses and to Dr. Hussman who went above and beyond with providing end of life care for Iris.

There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at a later date. Arrangements entrusted with Trull funeral home.
