SALVENDY, Elfriede Brigitte 'Elfi' - (13 November, 1940 – 24 March, 2021)
Elfi (Elfriede) Brigitte Gasselseder Broser Salvendy was born in Vienna, Austria, on the 13th of November 1940 and moved to Don Mills, Toronto in 1967, with her husband Dr. John Thomas Salvendy and daughter Sylvia.
She and John were married for over 50 years, and had three children: Sylvia, Daniel and Oscar. They had four grandchildren: Ian, Isabel, Marcus and Heléna.
Elfi was a much loved piano teacher in the Don Mills area. Music and piano were great passions of hers, and this talent had been in the family for many generations; her paternal grandmother in fact played piano for the Emperor Franz Joseph of the Austro-Hungarian empire!
Elfi was an adventurous traveller, having visited over 70 countries including Yemen, as well as Papua New Guinea, Borneo and Brazil which were amongst some of her favourite trips. She was an avid hiker and spent many summers hiking in the Austrian Alps. She had a reputation for being a fast walker and indeed even in her 70s, no one could keep up with her!
She loved Austria, her home country, and dearly cherished her visits there twice a year. Along with her passion for the outdoors and nature, she loved gardening. She was an exceptional cook and her legendary schnitzels with the secret sauce tartare and spectacular desserts will always be remembered.
May she be blessed and rest in peace.
