Steinbach KlausSTEINBACH, Klaus   - May 13, 1933 - May 3, 2021

Klaus Steinbach, a perennial dreamer, and a man genuinely interested in the lives of others, passed away on May 3, 2021, suddenly at 87, just 10 days shy of his 88th birthday.

Klaus was born on May 13, 1933, to Heinz and Frieda Steinbach, in Berlin, Germany.

Twenty-one years later, in 1954, the adventurous Klaus flew off to Toronto, Canada, where, in 1958 he would meet a young 20-year-old girl named Gerlind "Gerri" Flitner, on a blind date in High Park.

The two hit it off, and soon their son Steven was born, followed 5 years later by daughter Kym, and again 5 years later by another daughter, Jennifer.

Sensing a pattern and the need for a larger home, they soon settled down in 1965 in the new community of Rexdale, where they raised their young family in a life of suburban splendor, surrounded by a wonderful, close-knit community of caring neighbours and friends.

Klaus was a much-loved husband, father, friend and "Opa".

His well-lived life has come to an end, but the many lives he has touched will continue on. To cite one of his many funny sayings and malaprops (which will be missed): "Remember to carve out your corner and follow it."

We are all grateful for the time Klaus was with us to "carve out that corner".

Klaus is survived by his wife Gerri, his children Steven, Kym and Jennifer, his sons-in-laws Hugh Piggins and George Scott, and honorary extended family, Derek, Ji and Quinn.

In lieu of flowers, if people wish, they can make a donation to a local humane society, wildlife fund, or national parks service. Much love and keep smiling.
