MACCARONE, Carmela Maccarone - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Peacefully, she left this world on May 16, 2021 at the age of 93.
Carmela was the third daughter born to Leonardo and Elisabetta Basso on March 28, 1928 in Orta Nova, Italy.
Starting at a young age, Carmela worked hard to prepare meals and help to maintain the household while her mother and older sisters worked in the fields.
As a young teenager, she dreamed of a better life and persuaded her parents to attend school to become one of the town’s seamstress, which made her whole family proud.
Carmela was a forward thinker and was truly born ahead of her time.
On December 27, 1952, Carmela married her husband Michele Maccarone in Orta Nova, Italy. In 1962, with three young children, little currency, and no knowledge of the language, she made the long journey across the waters to Canada to reunite with her husband.
In 1964 Carmela and Michele bought their lifelong home in an urban, immigrant neighbourhood in Toronto. While her husband worked long hours to provide for his family, Carmela raised their five children and managed the household.
Carmela is survived by her greatest legacy – her family; her devoted husband of 68 years Michele Maccarone, Children; Isabella (Sam), Anna (Mario), Michelantonio (Ilda), Leonardo (Theresa), Elena (Raffaele), Grandchildren; Robert (Susie), Diane, James (Amanda), Mark, Amanda (David), Rachel (Elias), Alexander (Jessie), Adam, Christopher, Christian, Emma and Jeremy, Great Grandchildren; Sienna, Lorenzo and Logan and another baby boy on the way.
Her fundamental values are what she leaves behind with everyone she touched. Although she has left this world, her undying love, positivity, fearlessness and caring nature remains. Carmela always wanted what was best for everyone: to be happy and surrounded by family.
Carmela spoke fondly of being reunited with her mother, father and sisters; Lucia, Carolina and Rachela. Her family rests easy knowing this wish has been granted and will carry on her legacy.
Although she has left this world, she is always a part of us and forever lives in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, to honour the memory of Carmela Maccarone you may wish to make a donation in her name to Kensington Gardens at https://www.kensingtonhealth.org/donate.
