Esson PaulESSON, Paul Douglas - Passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2021 in his 87th year.

He is survived by his wife Betsy (nee Katharine Calvin), his daughters Elizabeth Esson and Stephanie Esson Schmidt (Michael) and his grandchildren Maddie Martin, Katie Schmidt and Ben Schmidt.

He was born in Toronto and attended St Andrew’s College and McGill University. He and his friends from the SAC class of ’53 remained close throughout their entire lives.

He loved sharing stories of the shenanigans they got into.

His career in finance spanned over 40 years, taking him to The City of London, Bay Street and then Wall St and back with his family in tow.

Paul was always looking for fun, making mischief and enjoyed being the life of the party. He was a “true jock” and loved sports his entire life.  The RCYC was his home away from home and he spent most of his life racing various yachts.

Paul was proud of his daughters and his grandchildren. He taught them to work hard, enjoy life and to “stand up and be counted”.  Family vacations with the entire gang were full of fun and hiccups, memories that still cause great laughter.  We will miss his unsolicited opinions and devilish grin.

Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory can be made to The Canadian Wildlife Federation or The Salvation Army.
