O'BRIEN, Siser Anne   -   Sister Anne O'Brien, a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario, died in Pembroke, on June 23, 2021, in the 59th year of her Religious Life.

Left to mourn her loss are the members of her Religious Community and her sister, Phyllis (Brian Veinot).

She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Evelyn (Kennedy), her sister Maureen (John Sullivan), and her brother Thomas (Lena).

Sister Anne was born in Ottawa on August 4, 1942.

She entered the Community on October 4, 1963, pronouncing final vows on August 14, 1971.

A teacher by profession, she taught at Immaculata High School, Ottawa, later serving as Principal there as well as at St. James North School in Eganville and O'Gorman High School, Timmins. In 1977, she was elected as Councillor for the Grey Sisters' Community, a post she held for the next eight years.

Other ministries included, service on the staff of Catholic New Times, eventually becoming Editor.

She later served at the Lasallian Refugee Centre and the Canadian Friends Service Committee. Her volunteer work included serving on several boards, including KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives. She also engaged in freelance work, mostly editing services to justice groups.

In 2013, she was again elected to the Leadership Team of the Grey Sisters' Community.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. Limited numbers are permitted in the church for the funeral. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021. Interment in St. Columba Cemetery.
