Rishy Maharaj BettyRISHY-MAHARAJ, Bindrawattee 'Betty' - It is with deepest sadness we announce the passing of Bindrawattee Rishy-Maharaj (aka mom, naani, ajee, Betty, Aunty Betty, bhouji, dadi, Batia)

Born December 24th, 1932 in Trinidad (an early Christmas present) and passed June 27th, 2021 in Brampton.

By whatever name you knew her, everyone knew her as a loving, caring person who wouldn’t let anyone leave the house without making sure they had something to eat.

After a short battle with pancreatic cancer, she passed away gently in her sleep. We can all take solace in the thought that she did not have a long and lingering illness.

The first born to Kubair Singh and Bhagwat, wife of Bhagirath (Ricky), mother to Savi, Ravi, Daya, Rudra and Shanta, mother-in-law to Krishan Khanna, Jennifer Rishy-Maharaj and Graham Bartsch, grandmother of Dev, Meera, Nandini, Nityan and Mahesh. Sister to Mohan, Rajdaye, Khiemti, Roy and Indrani. Sister-in-Law to Tura (Mohan), Basdeo (Rajdaye), Gerry (Khiemti), Sandra (Roy), Alvin (Indrani), Ram and Ruby, Bree and Chandra, Ramesh and Uma.

Bindrwattee/Betty/Aunty Betty/Naani/Ajee/Mom/bhouji/dadi/Batia was the matriarch of the family who knit the tight bonds that kept everyone together gathering annually for her birthday celebration each Christmas eve. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, but not forgotten by anyone. This Christmas eve, raise a toast in her honour.

Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, a Private Family funeral service and cremation will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements and livestream details are entrusted with Ward Funeral Home "Brampton Chapel."

By request of the family in lieu of flowers, please make charitable donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
