Davies PatDAVIES, Dr. Mary Patricia 'Pat' - Died peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, after a short illness.

Fondly remembered as daughter of Thomas Brookes and Helena Eva Davies, sister of Tom and Billy, aunt of Claire, Jill, Joanne and Mark and Jane Foord-Kelcy, with whom Pat had an especially close relationship.

Pat was born in Middlesbrough in the U.K. She studied medicine at the University of Durham and then immigrated to Canada early in her career as an anaesthesiologist. Pat was devoted to her profession, carrying on well into later life and worked at St Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto for 30 years.

She developed many friends and was well liked by the staff. She will be missed. Pat will always be remembered by her family for her approachability, charm, her zest for life, her forthrightness, and her energy.

She loved opera, culture, and her garden amongst many other things. She had a passion for travel, including skiing and hiking to Machu Picchu. She was a committed member of Rosedale Presbyterian Church although she was an Anglican by denomination. She enjoyed a long and close relationship with the nuns at St. John’s Convent.

We are grateful and comforted by the words of Sister Wilma who expressed both sadness and joy in the passing of a child of God into the heavenly realm.

Pat held particularly fond memories of spending many childhood summers at the farm of her cousins, Cyril and Joyce Ellwood in Barnard Castle. Adjacent to the 13th Century Egglestone Abbey and the River Tees, it is easy to see how this dramatic and beautiful setting captured Pat’s heart. Barnard Castle was a place she always spoke of returning to.

Although as a family we are heartbroken to be unable to attend her funeral in the time of COVID 19, it is our hope to repatriate her ashes in this area.

A special thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Pyper and Sharon McKee for their years of friendship and guidance.

Memorial donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation or to Rosedale Presbyterian Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at Rosedale Presbyterian Church, 129 Mt Pleasant Rd, on Saturday, July 17th, at 2 p.m.
