Lee GarwinLEE, Garwin - June 9, 1960 – July 9, 2021 - Garwin passed away at the age of 61 in Toronto after a short yet devastating battle with cancer. His diagnosis took everyone by surprise, but his medical team worked tirelessly to take care of him in his last moments and make sure that he passed peacefully.

He was born to Kenneth Wen-Gen Lee and Alice Shui-Yin Hui on June 9th, 1960 in Hong Kong.

He never hesitated to step up to help his siblings Garfield, Garbo, and Garley, and in return was lovingly spoiled.

He studied at Raimondi College, where he made his ‘forever friends’ and remains their cheerful ‘fei zai’ (fat guy) in their hearts. He was introduced to his future-wife Celia through a schoolmate, and the two of them quickly fell in love; in fact, he loved her so much that he even agreed to marry her 3 times over thanks to some paperwork issues.

Garwin immigrated to Canada in 1992 and settled in Thornhill, going on to raise two children, Mary and Marcus, with immense love and life-long wisdom. Garwin was a perpetual hard worker, and at ASI he was a respected leader and friend that could solve any problem that he came across.

While his family always had first place in his heart, his second love was mah-jong. He was an incredibly skilled player that would teach anyone how to play – though people could rarely best him. Garwin and his family also loved to take road trips, and he never hesitated to hop into the driver’s seat – though it helped that Celia would often ‘forget’ her driver’s license, leaving him to drive. Everyone knew that they were in good hands behind the wheel of his “A-ber” – or, Ba-Ba Uber. His generosity was unmatched as he would offer rides near and far and do whatever he could for others.

Whenever he helped someone else, Garwin would always refuse anything in return and insist that they “buy him a coffee next time”. His final wishes were for everything to be simple, and for the people around him to be happy. In honour of who he was, treat yourself and share a coffee and a smile with a friend.

Anyone who wishes to pay their respects may attend the visitation on Saturday, July 17th at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home Markham, with the Catholic funeral service to follow.
