SHAFRAN, Anna Maria 'Anci' - Born 16 December 1931, Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. Died September 8, 2021 in Toronto in her 90th year.
Devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and aunt.
Anci lived through the horrors of the Holocaust but survived with the help of her beloved mother, the late Serena Gross. After the war, she emigrated first to Kingston, Jamaica and then to the USA where she graduated from the University of Cincinnati.
In 1954 she married Dr. Murray Shafran and moved to Toronto where she created a loving home for their family of 4 boys.
A beautiful, elegant, and highly accomplished lady, Anci loved the arts, golf, swimming and traveling and even found the time to manage a business after the passing of her husband. She was a brilliant cook and loved to entertain. Most of all, she loved and was loved by her family.
She was the doting mother of Edward (Grace), Stephen (Beverly), Barry (Denise) and Neil.
She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Daniel (Becky), Alexander (Talia), Leslie, Leah, Margot, Adam, Spencer (Cady), Bradley and Benjamin, as well as her close friends, Stacey Mendelson and David Soberman.
She adored her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Zev, Micah and Norah.
Our deepest gratitude to the wonderful team at Sunnybrook for their compassion during her final days. Although she led a long and full life, she leaves a giant hole in our lives. May her memory be for a blessing.
A Family graveside service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021.
