Skyrme RaymondSKYRME, Raymond  -  May 2, 1937 – October 1, 2021

Born in Bridgend, South Wales, Ray's talent for athletics and academics first shone in his grammar school days.

He attended Bristol University and emigrated to Canada in 1961 to teach Spanish and French at the University of Waterloo.

He completed his PhD in Linguistics and Literature at the University of Michigan. Ray taught Spanish language, literature, and linguistics at the University of Toronto for 34 years.

When not teaching or writing, Ray was an avid golfer.

He enjoyed playing snooker, listening to opera and CBCRadio2, gardening, and faithfully cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ray is survived by Ridy Maria (Hoegler), his wife of 55 years, children Caroline (David Craig, and grandchildren Marcus, Maya, and Zoë) and Christopher (Erinn McNicol), and Ray's brother Geoffrey (Sue) and children.

A family graveside service will be held in Kitchener.
