Hofmann TheoHOFMANN, Dr. Theodor 'Theo' - (February 20,1924 - October 5, 2021) - Theo passed away at the age of 97 on October 5, 2021 at Mackenzie Health Hospital.

Theo is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Hofmann (née Forbes) and their three sons, Martin (Alcina), Tony (Kiri), Peter (Karen), six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Theo was born and educated in Graubünden and Zürich, Switzerland where he obtained his PhD. He then proceeded with post doctoral work in Aberdeen, where he met his wife Doris. His studies took him to many locations around the world, including Ayr, Sheffield, Seattle, Sydney, Malmo, Edmonton and Toronto. He was a world renowned researcher and Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto for 30 years.

A world traveller, birder, skier, mountain climber and canoeist, his spirit of adventure will live on in his children and grandchildren. Theo travelled well into his 90’s following his greatest passion birding. He was a life-lister, contributor to the Atlas of Ontario Breeding Birds, and amateur ornithologist who birded on every continent and in far too many countries to count. He took part in 66 Christmas Bird Counts.

The family would like to thank all the staff and health care workers at Mackenzie health and Delmanor for their kindness, compassion and dedication through all the years in caring for Theo.

In lieu of flowers or a donation, please consider performing a Random Act of Kindness in Theo’s memory.

Theo will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, and honesty. He will be deeply missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 14th in Aurora. Please contact the family for details. (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
