PORTER, Ronald Brodie - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald B. Porter, on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in his 88th year.
Predeceased by his parents William and Jessie Porter, brother William (Audrey) and sister Sandra (survived by brother-in-law Charles).
Loving and devoted husband of 63 years to Muriel. He was the loving father of David (Anita), Karen, Kevin, Robert, and Cameron.
He was the proud granddad to Shannon, Clayton (Clairissa), Barry, Haley, Nicole (Justin), Kelsey (Gloire); and proud great granddad to Tyrel (Emilee), Brianna, Logan, Bruce, and Avayah.
Ron was considered by most to be a very smart (renaissance) man, he seemed to know something about everything.
He acquired what would become a lifelong love of music in school, and at age 12 he was part of the school choir when they sang at Massey Hall. He later graduated from high school on the Dean's list.
Ron was a hard worker and handyman and loved to work with his hands, and he had fun doing it; he taught his kids that "if it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer."
Ron was employed almost 40 years at Bell Canada and greatly enjoyed sharing his work stories.
He loved being outdoors, on the lake, or in the forest. Ron and his wife Muriel actually met while camping in Temagami, and later enjoyed many wonderful summers at their cottage together near Parry Sound.
Ron was an old-fashioned gentleman. An example of this was when he was the leader of a scout troop, sitting around a breakfast campfire, some scouts challenged him to name a beautiful woman, thinking he would choose a movie star like Raquel Welch, or Ann Margaret. To their surprise he named his wife, Muriel. The boys were actually impressed.
Ron had a generous heart, if you found yourself in a bind, he would be the first to (quietly) offer you a helping hand, he gave generously, in various ways, to many.
He was also quick witted, loved to laugh and always kept us laughing. Ron loved to read pretty well everything, especially novels; Zane Grey, and Edgar Rice Boroughs were two of his favourite authors.
Ron’s last few years were difficult ones, but his faith in God grew stronger, and his positive attitude and strength were inspiring. His continued love for his wife, children and extended family and friends was evident to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by many.
