Costa SamCOSTA, Salvatore 'Sam' - Of Toronto, was born on December 14, 1938, in Cardinale, Catanzaro, Italy to the late Carmela Apa and the late Giuseppe Costa. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his beautiful baby daughter (Carmela), his sister Elisa (Giorgio) and his brothers Giovanni (Catherine), Bruno and Sebastian (Antonietta).

Beloved husband of Maria for 56 years.

Loving father of Joe (Penny) and Frank (Genta). Proud Nonno of Matteo.

Salvatore immigrated to Toronto in 1956 at the age of 17.  A proud Canadian, he often joked later in life how he considered himself more of a Canadian than an Italian. In an effort to quickly assimilate into his new home country he would frequently attend English movies in order to learn the language.

Salvatore was a hard and dedicated worker with a strong work ethic who took great pride in his workmanship. He was employed as a baker, a tailor and ultimately as an upholster up until his retirement in 2003.

He enjoyed playing cards, listening to country music and taking day trips, particularly to the Niagara Wine Region.  He especially enjoyed making his own wine, cured meats and tomato sauce. He is survived by his sister Stella (Salvatore) Cristello and his many nieces and nephews from Canada, USA and Australia. Salvatore will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home, Dufferin Chapel, Toronto on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church 3220 Bayview Avenue, Toronto at 10:30 a.m.
