Fligg GeorgeFLIGG, George Edward - Passed away, on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the age of 88.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (nee Capstick).

He is survived by his children: John Fligg, Donna Gleasure (Richard) and Carol Spezza (George). His grandchildren: Elizabeth van der Merwe (Reinaert), Shauna Gleasure (Josh), Jennifer Spezza (Brandon), Michael Spezza (Stephanie), Cassandra Spezza (Liam) and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.

George was born in North Bay, ON to Albert Fligg and Lillian Davis (nee Ward). George was the middle child of five and the last to pass on. He is predeceased by his sister Eileen Kiely, Rosemary Danes, Charles Fligg and Robin Davis.

He loved the outdoors and being raised during the war. It was this ability which greatly supported his family’s food supply. George had two careers. Initially, he worked for National Cash Register and travelled throughout northern Ontario repairing business machines, primarily cash registers. After he and Mom married, they settled in Toronto and he worked for Sweda Business Machines.

It was during this time he attended the University of Toronto where he completed his degree becoming a Teacher. He was a dedicated teacher, teaching Mathematics at King City Secondary for more than 20 years.

After his retirement, he and Mom travelled and enjoyed time with their family. Their dream trip was to Hawaii and Dad often talked about how much they enjoyed this trip. Dad loved music and we often enjoyed his love of the Hawaiian music.

He and Mom visited across Canada often visiting Donna in the West and Mom’s family in the East. They visited Mexico, Cartagena and several of the U.S. States. Sadly, with Mom’s passing Dad was left to travel on his own. He still continued to travel across the country and enjoyed several camping trips with Donna, Richard and their girls to Wells Gray Park in B.C. Here, he hiked his favourite hike to Trophy Mountain and spoke of it often. There were many hikes in those 10 years including hiking through the Newfoundland Mountains and even visiting Gros Morne.

George was always there for his family and friends. He and Carol often skated with the children and he celebrated many Christmas concerts, plays, graduations and other family events.

In 2007, Dad suffered a debilitating stroke and started his life in care. John, Carol and Donna were always there for him and made sure he was as comfortable as possible. Carol was even able to take Dad to a concert and John was able to take him to BC in 2011 to see Donna’s new home. But, these last 14 years were difficult and his health continued to decline. He was always a fighter and even survived Covid when he came down with it in December 2020.

On November 17th, 2021 his fight finally ended and he went to be with his beloved Mary.

Special thanks to the staff of Silverthorn Nursing home for their devoted care.

Arrangements are entrusted with Delmoro funeral home.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
