Platt Rev PhilipPLATT, Rev. Philip Wallace, CSB  - Died peacefully at Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto, on November 18, 2021, after 78 years as a Basilian and 71 years of priestly ministry.

He was born in Toronto on May 26, 1925.

Fr. Wally was predeceased by his parents Norman Platt and Leonora Leigh, by his brothers Fr. Edwin, Hugh, John, Donald and Robert, and by his sisters Marie Verity, Ursula Reid, Ruth McGraw, and Anne Platt.

He is survived by his brother Norman, his sister Jeannette Windfeld, and his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

After graduating from St. Michael's College School, Toronto, he joined the Basilian Fathers in 1942 and was ordained a priest at St. Basil's Church on June 29, 1950 by James Cardinal McGuigan.

Fr. Platt obtained a B.A. in 1947, an M.A. in 1951 (University of Toronto).

He received a Licence és Lettres degree in 1957 (Université de Lyon) and a PhD from the University of Toronto in 1976. His academic career took him to the Institution Secondaire du Sacre Coeur (Annonay), Maison Saint-Basile (Paris), University of St. Thomas (Houston), St. Joseph's College (Edmonton), and The American College of Louvain (Belgium).

He served in parish ministry in Mexico City, Tehuacán (Mexico), Cali and Bogotá (Colombia).

Fr. Platt's bright intelligence, gentle nature and good humour were a blessing to his confreres. His dedication to education enriched the lives of many. His humble service in parishes touched the lives of many.

The Basilian Fathers extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Presentation Manor and the dedicated staff at Michael Garron Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 25th, at Corpus Christi Church, 16 Lockwood Road, Toronto.

Burial will be at the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, ON.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Basilian Fathers Retirement Fund, 95 St. Joseph Street, Toronto, ON M5S 3C2.
