Nguyen Linh ThiNGUYEN, Linh Thi - We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs. NGUYEN THI LINH.

Born January 16, 1930 in Hà Nam, Vietnam. Passed away on December 1, 2021 at 11:20 AM in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada at the age of 91.

Mrs. Linh Thi Nguyen was born in a small village of Ha Nam province in Vietnam. She was the youngest of six siblings, became motherless at the age of two, and got married at 18 years old to Mr. Hung Nguyen Dang.

In 1955, Vietnam was divided into two countries: the North Communist and the South Republic. She left the north with her husband and three children at the time traveling south on the last boat from the port of Hai Phong.

Creating a new life in a new country without any assets was immensely difficult. She took any available jobs and traded various goods while her husband worked as a private tutor. Eventually, their family situation improved as she landed a job as a grocery clerk in Nguyen Du supermarket and her husband became a public servant. She was thrifty and invested everything she had in the education of her ten children. The eldest son studied abroad in Europe in 1971.

In 1975, the South Republic lost to the North Communists. She and her husband both lost their jobs. Her husband stayed home taking care of the kids while she became a trader in the black market. The work was dangerous, tiring, and involved long hours. She was strong and never complained or gave up. She always brought love and happiness to her family.

At the start of 1980, she and her husband dispersed their savings and arranged for her children to escape Vietnam one by one. Every time that she sent each child away, she feared for their safety, not knowing whether or not she would ever see them again; especially since she had to keep changing her address to avoid the government crackdown. Fortunately, her children all survived their perilous journeys and settled well in their new countries.

In 1991, the Vietnam Communist regime opened up to the rest of the world. Her children sponsored her and her husband to immigrate to Canada which resulted in a happy reunion for their large family after enduring a life so full of ups and downs. Unfortunately, this only lasted for six years until 1997 when her husband passed away after 50 years of marriage.

Despite being elderly, on her own, and having family scattered all throughout Canada and France she remained strong; joyfully visiting all ten of her children to care for them and for the future generations of her family. All twenty-seven of her grandchildren were able to grow up full of love and tender care from their grandma and that bond remains strong to this day. As she grew older, she continued to take good care of herself, walking daily and maintaining a proper diet to avoid becoming a burden to her children.

However, despite her best efforts, it was eventually time to say goodbye to her family members who have enjoyed fruitful, happy, and successful lives because of her. She peacefully passed away at 91 years of age on December 1, 2021, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

She will be always be remembered by her ten children, twenty-seven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren as a mom, grandma, and great-grandma who exemplified what it meant to be a woman of kindness, morality and humility and yet was also truly strong, persistent, and passionate for her family.

Arrangements are entrusted with Kane-Jerrett funeral home, Thornhill, Ontario.
