BUCHANAN, Herma - On December 7, 2021, Herma Buchanan passed away peacefully at age 73 with her family by her side after a brief battle with colon cancer.
Herma was the biological mother of two children, Pauline and Kirkpatrick. However, many people considered her their surrogate mother because of her kindness and the exemplary person she was.
It would be wrong to say that Herma lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Herma stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Herma. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.
Herma was an exceptional mother, grandmother, sister and mother-in-law. She cared deeply for her family and neighbours. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was a devoted Christian and was always the first to offer help to those in need. She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy.
Herma is survived by her daughter Pauline Shields-Reynolds, her son Kirkpatrick Shields, four grandchildren and one great grandson.
