Hilton SusanneHILTON, Susanne Farris

June 17, 1964 - January 1, 2024

In the early hours of January 1st, our beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend Susanne died peacefully in hospital.

The daughter of Donalda (Farris) and David Hilton, Susanne was a world traveller from the get-go, shipping out from Tokyo to Canada at the tender age of 3 weeks.

She continued to explore the world for many decades thereafter.

Susanne grew up, for the most part, in Ottawa.

She attended Glebe Collegiate Institute and Trent University. Susanne was a committed environmentalist and loved the outdoors.

Susanne loved the rush of white water and the peace found sitting by a lake. She worked as a forestry consultant with the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee and treasured her time visiting remote hunting grounds and trapping lines, listening to and learning from the original caretakers of this land.

In later years, Susanne experienced mental illness and a challenging diagnosis of chronic medical conditions. Ever curious, Susanne continued exploring new ideas and faiths and was keen to share her insights with friends, old and new.

She cherished her independence, her extended family, including her parents, her sister Diana, her brother-in-law Toby, her niece Nika, her friends and neighbours and her cat companions.

We will miss her smile, her quick wit, her generosity and her role as executive chef in the kitchen during the preparation of the famous family chili sauce.

A celebration of Susanne's life will take place in the spring.
