Maedel JohnMAEDEL, John William "Jack"  -  Passed away suddenly, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the age of 63.

Best friend and former partner of Allan McCracken.

Loving brother of Jim (Corinne) and Bob (Steve).

Also sadly missed by his cousins, Susan Strathy (Rich), Catherine Strathy (David), Hope Humphrey (Ilya), Margot Cook (Will), Steve Shaver (Marg), Al Shaver (Lisa), Jill Bobier (Bill), Lynn Oliver (Peter) and their families.

He is survived by his many friends in the Metropolitan Community Church, the rainbow programs at the 519 Community Centre and the Sunshine Centres for Seniors, where he preferred to be called 'Jack,' after his grandfather, as 'there were too many Johns.'

John grew up in North Toronto and was especially proud of his time in the North Toronto choir. After graduation from the University of Toronto, John moved to East York.

John worked for Foresters for 26 years, where he rode his bike to work in good weather and bad. Upon 'retirement,' John joined the Mann McCracken law firm for 8 years. John was a keen student of history, and he loved historic walks and events throughout the city.

He could correct anyone on historical dates going back centuries, especially British history. He loved to travel and reminisce about his time backpacking across Europe. Everyone will remember John for nurturing his cats into old age.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Metropolitan Community Church, 115 Simpson Avenue, Toronto, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11 a.m., with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Metropolitan Community Church for their programs helping LGBTQ youth and others.
