CADOT, Mieke  -  Sculptor, Doll Maker, and Artist.

Off to join the circus in the sky in her 85th year, on December 7, 2023 - Toronto, Canada.

SIMPLICITY IS THE ESSENCE OF DIVINE WISDOM AS ART CAN BE THE PURSUIT OF SERENDIPITY.

Born in Amsterdam, studied at Kunstacadamie Arnhem, and apprenticed in Pottery, before shipping off to Canada with her husband, Willem.

Active from the 60s-90s, she was well known for her sewn fashionable decorative dolls, papier mâché and plaster burlesque statuettes in benign poses, giant-sized colourful Fiberglass Figures, and Ethereal Soft Sculpture case art.

Over the years with home and studio in Yorkville, Kensington Market, and the Beaches, they also had an Antique Store the "Magic Lantern" on Queen Street West, and a hobby farm Northwest of Toronto.

Very close with her son, Sebastiaan (Bas) and his wife, Elizabeth; her brother, Kees; and his daughters; and family back in Holland. Mieke's focus of enjoyment was being an Oma to Vanessa.

Later she met Irish Folk singer and film cameraman, Teddy McClelland, who would be her companion for two decades.

She lived and died on her terms, she kept it simple, took it day by day, and did it her own way. Mieke is survived by her eldest sister, Beer; two younger brothers, Jan and Paul; her son's family; many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life, a time to reminisce and say a final Adieu in the Memory of Mieke, will be hosted by her family on Sunday, April 7, 2024; drop in 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at 67 Craven Road, Toronto.
