BARDWELL, Louis 'Lou' Elias - Passed away peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital on November 8, 2017.
Born on August 8, 1924, Lou was the last surviving of five sons of Thomas Habib and Selma Bardwell. Last year, he lost the love of his life, Mary Theresa Bardwell, his wife of 63 years, Lou leaves behind a tight-knit family of six loving children: Mary-Lou (John Collins), Anne-Marie, Susan (Kevin Thompson), John (Heidi Pelzl), Andrew (Camille) and Chris (Laurie Nichols), 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a loving large extended family.
After graduating from U of T with a combined Engineering and Business degree, Lou was engaged in the design of the CF-105 AVRO Arrow. In 1959, with the cancelation of the program, Lou discovered a passion for teaching for which he became deeply grateful.
He was unwavering in his dedication to his students and the profession. Lou was community minded and active in his parish of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, serving in Scouting, the Knights of Columbus, as a Eucharistic Minister and with The Good Shepherd and St. Francis Table.
Lou was an adoring and devoted husband, caring father and doting grandfather. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Lou was happiest surrounded by family, swimming and playing cards at the cottage on Mary Lake, square dancing with his wife and gathering for celebrations that invariably involved great food. He will be remembered for his love of music, which he passed onto his family and for his polished funny bone. Lou lived a life guided by humility, love and faith and enriched the lives of those around him with his playful spirit and quiet affection. His infectious smile lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Visitation will be at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Rd., Scarborough, on Sunday, November 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima, 3216 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, Monday, November 13th at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lou's memory to St. Francis Table, The Good Shepherd Ministries or Scarborough Foreign Missions would be appreciated.
