Missios CliffMISSIOS, Cliff "Cleanthis"   - Died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Toronto Western Hospital in his 94th year.

His nephew, and only surviving relative in Canada, Lucien Pateopol, was by his side.

Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Mary.

Cliff was a longtime friend to George Soleas and Archbishop Sotirios; who cared greatly for him. Accompanied by Rev. Christian Socosan, Archbishop Sotirios visited him at the hospital several times; praying for him and giving him Holy Communion. Born and raised in Bucharest, Romania.

As a consequence of World War II, Cliff immigrated first to France, then in the mid 50s to Canada. First working in real estate, he helped many immigrants find their first home. He then moved on to a new career as Proprietor of a French fine dining establishment, L'Aiglon on Yorkville Avenue.

Here he feted many of the visiting dignitaries and royalties of the day for two decades. For his last career, spanning three decades, he pioneered the distribution of Greek Wines in Canada. He will be remembered as a gentleman of distinction carrying himself with charm and elegance wherever he went and was always impeccably dressed. Cliff was a person of deep Orthodox faith; always conducting himself with honesty and integrity.

He received many recognitions for his contributions to society including being named Archon, the highest honour bestowed on a lay person, by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople.

Visitation will be held at St. John Theologian Orthodox Church, 1 Patriarch Bartholomew Way, Toronto, on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

A Divine Liturgy will be Celebrated in St. John Theologian for him on Tuesday, December 5th at 7:30 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m.  All services will be presided over by Archbishop Sotirios. Interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy would be appreciated.
