McCOWAN (RUSSELL), Jewel (nee BELL) - January 10, 1930 – February 4, 2018
With great sadness we announce the passing of Jewel in her 89th year.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, Jimmy Russell, whom she married at age 72 and her parents: Opal and William Bell.
Jewel was a loving mother to John McCowan (Brenda) and Ann Wakelin (Robert). Wonderful grandmother to Evan (Greta), Wesley, Robin Ann, Jackie and James. Dear sister to Garnet Bell (deceased), Pauline Dooley (deceased) and Bill Bell. Fun-loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Jewel had a wonderful career as an Elementary School Teacher.
She was a talented singer and a longtime member of the Sweet Adelines (Scarborough and North Metro Chorus). She sang in a Barbershop quartet called the Metrogals for years. She was an avid curler and golfer. A devoted grandmother who cheered on her grandchildren at every event. She will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
