D'AMICO, Maria Antonietta  - June 4, 1932 - February 12, 2018

It is with great heartbreak we announce that Maria Antonietta (charmingly self- coined "Antonella") D'Amico, born in Rome, Italy on June 4, 1932, peacefully left us to join our loving departed family on February 12, 2018 at 12:13 p.m. in her home.

Antonella was daughter of the late Elena and Carlo Podio, sister to Nino Podio, wife to her beloved husband, the deceased Alfonso D'Amico and was companion to the late Ermano Bilucalia.

She is survived by her two children Mauro (Marlene) and Patrizia (Sanjay), her five grandchildren Michael, Amanda, Sonya, Daniel and Julian, as well as her great-grandchild Avalynne. Antonella's joy and charming sense of humour, remarkable capacity to love, and fierce loyalty and sacrifice for her family are unmatched qualities that only echo the emptiness that is left in the lives of those who knew her. She spent many years suffering with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Renal Disease.

While she was ill for many years, she was lovingly cared for by a strong healthcare team, nurtured especially by primary caregiver and loving friend Elizabeth Berhane. Her outpouring of love and care has truly been invaluable – thank you.

Antonella remained comfortable and sound in her home until her last moments. It is hard to imagine a world without Antonella; she was one of the most beautiful women inside and out, and her presence and ability to fill a room with smiles and laughter will be lovingly remembered always.

To know her was a blessing and incalculable joy and her passing impacts many of those who had the pleasure of joining her along her life journey.

Her family invites all who wish to celebrate Antonella's life to her viewing this Friday, February 16th at the Holy Cross Funeral Home, Thornhill, Ontario, between the hours of 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place within the funeral home Chapel on Saturday, February 17th at 11:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make any donations to a charity of your choice related to Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or cancer.
