Sakamoto GraceSAKAMOTO, Grace Haruko (nee SHIMIZU)  - It is with great sadness that the family announces her passing on March 14, 2018, at her home in Toronto.

She is survived by her husband Katsumi (Ken), her two sons Terry (Kelley) and Kevin (Janet), her five grandchildren Paul (Alla), Kimiko (Elliott), Sean, Kiyomi, Madori and her great-grandson Anton.

She will be remembered and missed by her extended family and many friends.

Grace spent her early years in Prince Rupert, BC. In her 12th year, Grace and her family were moved and interned in New Denver during the Second World War. Despite her family's hardship, Grace bore no grudges and fondly remembered those innocent childhood years for the friendships she built and the adventures she had in the British Columbia interior.

Making her way to Toronto, she met her husband Kats, with whom she would share more than sixty years of marriage. Settling in Etobicoke, the pair built a rich life filled with family, enduring friendships and wonderful experiences. Travel, dance and theatre were some of the activities Grace enjoyed. Grace's biggest love though was ever and always for her family, who she frequently spoiled with delicious and delectable meals.

She loved her grandchildren fiercely and was so very proud of them.

The birth last year of her great-grandson, Anton, brought a new joy into her life.

It was beautiful to see her face light up when Paul, Alla and little Anton came to visit her over the last few weeks. As per her wishes, the family had a quiet gathering to honour her memory and cremation has taken place.

A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 14th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel – 33 Carlson Court, Etobicoke.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Grace, donations may be made to Trillium Health Partners – Mississauga Hospital or a charity of your choice.
