Grayton MaryGRAYDON, Mary Theresa (McNEIL)  - August 15, 1928 - May 11, 2018

Our mother Mary died May 11, 2018.

Born a Saskatchewan girl on the cusp of the Great Depression, Mary finished her nurse training in New Waterford, Cape Breton.

She travelled to Toronto for employment, met her husband Norman and settled into the hectic life of work and motherhood in Brampton, Ontario.

Our father died in 1975 and our mom took on the role of single mother raising five children, Thelma (David), Ronald (Annette), Douglas (Stephen), Mary (Tom) and Laura (David).

Mom's Great Depression upbringing made her a very frugal lady except when it came to her children. She supported her children through college and university, nurturing all of us to achieve wonderful things in our lives. Our mother loved to travel.

Be it riding a camel in the Middle East, swimming with dolphins in Florida or getting on mystery bus tours to - wherever, she was always ready to explore the world, and now she is on the greatest mystery tour of all. But her children were her greatest passion.

She celebrated her children's marriages, grand and great-grandchildren, Laura and David's Elizabeth and Alexander, Ronald and Annette's children Neal, Derek (Megin) and their children Lincoln, Travis and Harper and Sean (Lisa) and their daughter Anna. And mom had a special place in her heart for Tom's son TJ. Our mom did a brilliant job of raising independent and creative people. And we are so grateful.

Mom's funeral will be held at her parish church of St. James the Apostle Anglican Church, 3 Cathedral Road, Brampton, stjamesbrampton.ca, Thursday, May 17th. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m., reception to follow. A private interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to mom's favorite charity, HelpAge Canada, helpagecanada.ca.
