Churchill BenjaminCHURCHILL, Benjamin Lloyd  -  September 16, 1929 - May 9, 2018

With family by his side, Benjamin Lloyd Churchill passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 9, 2018, at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, Nova Scotia.

Born September 16th, 1929, in Middle River Valley, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Lloyd was the son of John "Jack" Inglis Churchill and Eliza Ellen (MacRae) Churchill.

In his early 20s Lloyd left Middle River for Toronto where he and his wife Margaret raised their family.

Following 32 years of service, he retired from the Toronto Transit Commission in 1984. In 1963, Lloyd became a Master Mason in Grenville Lodge No. 629 in Toronto serving as its Worshipful Master in 1974.

He dedicated much time and effort to the Scottish Rite with the Royal Arch including a term as Superintendent in District 8 and particularly with the Order of the Eastern Star where in 1990 he served a term as the Worthy Grand Patron, Province of Ontario.

Lloyd always found comfort and joy in his community among family and friends and they with him. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife Margaret May (nee MacLeod) in 1991 and his older brother Charles Malcolm in 2005.

He is survived by his daughter Betty (Donald) Douglas, Toronto, Ontario; grandchildren LeeAnne (Justin) Brampton, Ont., Nathan, Toronto, Ont. and Adam, Guelph, Ont.; younger sister Ellen (Norm) Robinson, Georgian Bay, Ont.; sister-in-law Dorothy Ingraham, Margaree Valley; dear cousins Helene Byers, Middle River and Malcolm Chapman, Middle River; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family extends their deepest thanks to the staff at Alderwood Rest Home for their compassionate and diligent care particularly as Lloyd made the transition, after almost 8 years in residential care, to nursing care and then palliative care in a very short time.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life service and interment will take place on July 7, 2018, in Middle River.

Memorials in Lloyd's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
