SONLEY, Linda Jean (nee MARTIN) - Linda passed away peacefully in the palliative care of Extendicare Starwood Long-Term Care Home on the morning of Thursday, May 10th in her 72nd year.
Much loved wife for 47 years of James (Jay) Sonley and dear Mother of Eleanor (Tom) and Janet.
Predeceased by her mother, Eleanor Grace Smith and father Lockhart Martin. Our thanks go to Linda's best friend Nancy Pickell who supported her through the 15 year struggle.
Linda was a dedicated teacher librarian with the Ottawa-Carleton Board of Education, retiring in 2001. She fondly remembered students, staff and shenanigans at AY Jackson, Bell, Sir Robert Borden, Merivale and Metcalfe High Schools.
Linda was an enthusiastic Girl Guide as a girl and served as leader and later District Commissioner for the Girl Guides of Canada. She particularly enjoyed summer camping at Camp Woolsey. Linda's biggest challenge was her struggle with Frontotemporal Dementia. First diagnosed in 2003, she faced the developing disease with grace, strength and determination.
Moving to Starwood, she experienced the professional and loving care of PSWs, nurses and staff. The family would like to particularly express their appreciation to Daniel and Flo.
Friends are invited to visit at Knox United Church, 25 Gibbard Avenue, Nepean on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held in the church at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Interment will be at Pinedale Cemetery, near Sunderland, Ontario at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dementia Society, Friends of Starwood or Knox United Church would be appreciated.
