Lister DrRotraudLISTER, Dr. Rotraud (Rota) Herzberg, (PhD)  - Passed away peacefully; on September 3, 2016 at Trinity Village Kitchener, in her 89th year.

Loving mother of Liana (Gary) Lister MacMillan and Leonard (Debbie) Lister, she leaves precious memories with her grandchildren: Billy (Maki), Lindsay (Chris), Jacquie (Marty), Ryan (Melissa), and Kevon, and great grandchildren Zeth, Emma, Dylan, Maxwell, Wesley, Dominic, and Haylie.

Predeceased by her parents Carl and Johanna Herzberg.

Rota was born January 9, 1928, was baptized in Dortmund, Germany in the Reinoldikirche, the largest protestant church in town later damaged during the war. As a coping mechanism, Rota developed the ability to escape mentally. She lost herself in books and languages when she could not flee Germany physically. This passion later blossomed into a wonderful career as a Professor of English at the University of Waterloo.

In 1952, Rota married John Godfrey Lister in Toronto. It was there where she gave birth to the two children, Liana and Leonard.

Friends are welcomed to gather at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, Kitchener, on Thursday September 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Rota's life will be held in the Westmount Chapel on Friday at 11:00 a.m., Reverend Annette Smith of St. Mark's Lutheran Church will officiate.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in Rota's memory are appreciated to her grandchildren in trust, for their education and life advancement.
