Shannon JohnSHANNON, John D.E.  -  At Lanark Heights Longterm Care Centre on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the age of 73.

Husband of Beryl Shannon of 34 years.

Much loved father of Peter (Amy) Shannon, and stepfather of Karen (Steve) Willsteed and Shari Shaw.
Proud grandfather of Olivia and Sophia Shannon and stepgrandfather of Lucas Willsteed and Bailey and Natalie Shaw.

John will be sadly missed by his sisters Sandra (Ron) Good and Patricia (John) Houston and sister inlaw Sandra McDonnell.  Also sadly missed by his nephews Jonathan (Anne) Good and Christopher (Laura) Good and his nieces Michelle (Cam) Beaupre and Cindy (Glenn) Bossence.

Predeceased by his parents G. Harold Shannon and A. Irene McConaghy (nee McQuay), stepfather James McConaghy and by brother inlaw Bob McDonnell.

Special thanks to the Freeport Health Centre, GAU 4th floor staff for all their care during John’s 4 month stay. And an extra special thank-you to the Lanark Heights Long Term Care Centre staff, especially 3rd floor Pine neighbourhood for taking care of him and making him feel at home in the final months of his life.

John was called to the bar in 1968 and started practicing law with his father until taking over the practice in the mid 1970’s. After nearly 50 years of practicing law in Kitchener John finally retired in 2015. He lived his entire life in the Waterloo Region enjoying his volunteer work with the Alzheimer Society of K-W. He will be remembered by those who met him, as a special man with a very unique, sometimes dry sense of humour.

Family and friends will be received at Robert Ruggle funeral home, Waterloo on Friday, September 16, 2016 for a memorial visitation from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A service of remembrance celebrating John’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 1pm. Cremation has taken place.

As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer Society of K-W or Grand River Hospital Foundation-Freeport Site would be appreciated by the family.
