Jakobsh SonjaJAKOBSH, Sonja Brigitte (nee Machel)  -  Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of family and loving caregivers at Columbia Forest Long Term Care on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the age of 81.

Sonja was born in Hoffstadt (Stettin) Pommern, Germany and became a refugee towards the end of the Second World War. She and her family immigrated from Oldenburg, Germany to Edmonton, Alberta in 1953 in search of new beginnings. Sonja played an integral role in the ministry of the German Church of God in various congregations across Canada, including Aylmer, Ontario. As a singer, choir director and teacher she ministered to and was loved by many. At the age of 80 she moved from Vernon, BC where she had lived for 25 years, to Waterloo, Ontario to be closer to her daughter Doris. In the past 11 months, despite her increasing frailty, her light and love impacted those she met.

Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Pastor Josef Jakobsh (November 27, 2015).

Loving mother of Ralph and Ute Jacobs, Doris Jakobsh and Paul Roorda and Randall and Lilli Jakobsh. 
Dear grandmother to Jessen, Kaira, Leyla, Joshua and Josephine.

Dear sister of Inge Grams (Horst) and Renate Preis.

Predeceased by her parents Samuel and Paula (nee Adam) Machel and her brother Fred Machel.

Sonja's family will receive relatives and friends from 10-10:45 am on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Church of God (German), 170 Middlebury Drive, Waterloo. The funeral service will take place at 11 am at the church followed by a reception.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinson Society or the House of Friendship, Kitchener would be appreciated by the family.
