ZIEGLER, Rudolf 'Rudi' Alfons - Passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener at the age of 89.
He is survived by his wife Katharina, sister Maria (Hans), son Rudy, daughter-in-law Ruth, and beloved granddaughter Teresa.
He is predeceased by his parents Afra and Ferdinand, siblings Rosa, Ferdinand, Terry, Michael, Thea and Ludwig.
Rudi grew up in the small village of Adelshofen in Bavaria. He completed training as a cabinetmaker and immigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s to work as a tree-cutter north of Lake Superior. He then settled in Kitchener-Waterloo where he met his wife of 61 years, Kathi. They had one son, Rudy Jr. Rudi was a skilled carpenter who worked building fine homes in the Kitchener-Waterloo area for most of his working life. Rudi was an avid gardener producing bountiful crops of fruits and vegetables. He took great joy in playing with his granddaughter Teresa when she was young and was very proud of the accomplished young woman she has become.
He will be remembered for his smile and kind nature, and will be missed by many.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Rudi with his family during visitation at Erb & Good Family funeral home, Waterloo, on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 10 – 10:45 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Reception to follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Interment at Memory Gardens, Breslau following the reception.
