NIKLAUS, Emma Helen  -  Peacefully passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Thursday,        December 28, 2017, at the age of 87 years. 

Beloved wife of the late Hubert 'Nick' Niklaus. Loving mother of Larry Niklaus and Lori Niklaus and her husband Dave Reich. 

Survived by her sister Margaret Mahu (the late Charles) and by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Louis Gal and Barbara and Joseph Hanchuk.


GINGRICH, Darcy Brent  -  Died as the result of an accident on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at the age of 16 years.

Beloved son of Wayne and Doreen (Brubacher) Gingrich of RR 2, Alma. Dear brother of Darryl and Charlene of Mount Forest, and Ryan and Jeffrey at home.

Maternal grandson of Isaac and Leona Brubacher of Wallenstein, and paternal grandson of John and Selinda Gingrich of Floradale.


Hicks AmyHICKS, Amy Marie  -  Amy departed to be with the Lord on December 28, 2017, at the age of 91.

Amy was the beloved wife of George Hicks for 66 years, loving mother of Janice and husband Gerry Lippert, grandmother to Seth and wife Melody Lippert, Amy and husband BJ Martin, and great-grandmother to Lucy Lippert.  

Amy was born in Florenceville, New Brunswick, to Fred and Helen Perry. She was their firstborn and only daughter, followed by four brothers, Fred, John, Neville and Frank. She acted as a second mother in some instances when needed. She was loved immensely by her family and she in turn had great love for them.

Wife of the late Donald Coghlin. Mother of Debb Coghlin and Nick Allen of Ottawa, and Paul Coghlin of Kitchener, and grandmother of Grace Field.

Loved by her mother Rachel Schwalm of St. Thomas, her siblings Marjorie, Charles and Barb, and her 'in-laws' Murray and Barb Coghlin of Listowel, and Elaine and Kim Bell of Georgian Bluffs. Greatly missed by her best friend Princess.

Predeceased by her father Gordon Schwalm.

Swavings IdaSWAVING, Ida (Berends)  -  With thankfulness to the Lord, on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in her 96th year, she has passed on to her eternal glory! For the last little while, with failing health and energy, she longed to be with her Lord and Maker; her prayer has been answered!

She is predeceased by her husband Klaas (January 2013) and a grandson Kristopher (April 2017).

She leaves behind on this earth: Gerry (Therese); Dianne (Bob) Vanleeuwen; John (Shirley); Ken (Debbie); Paul (Heather). She was a sweet, caring Oma to 29 grandchildren and 63 great- grandchildren.


Westendorp WilhelminaWESTENDORP, Wilhelmina Etta 'Willa'  -  A resident of Harriston, passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Thursday, December 28, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.

Willa is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Henry Westendorp. 

She was the cherished mother of Julius and Colleen Westendorp of Kitchener, Elden and Julie Westendorp of Drayton, Jared and Kate Westendorp of Clinton Township, Michigan, and Ezra and Robbie Westendorp of Harriston. 

She was the most adoring grandmother of Josephine, Nathan, Carly, Shaelyn, Justine, Hannah, Evan, Rachel, Emma, Benton and Hayden.

McKinnon JamesMcKINNON, James L.  -  (April 17, 1931 – December 28, 2017)  -  Passed away peacefully on December 28, 2017 with his family by his side.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, his children Campbell (Terrie), Sandra (Bryce), Peter (Karyn) and grandchildren Matthew and Amanda. Jim, affectionately known as Jimmy or George, made friends everywhere he went. 

He was an eternal optimist, with a wonderful sense of humour, who enjoyed sharing a firm handshake with everyone he met. Jim was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada at the age of 22 with $100.00 in his pocket. He established himself as a respected Civil Engineer and later he went on to own his own company called 'Setchell and McKinnon Limited.'


Charlton NicolasCHARLTON, Nicolas Dale  -  (1981-2017)  -  It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son Nic after many years of struggles and challenges with mental health issues. He was 36 years old.

He is dearly loved by his parents Gini and Dale Charlton, sister Alyssa Charlton (Gus Hulan), much loved adopted son Tristan, grandma Charlton, Ropp family, Bezpaly family, Verlinden family, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

STONE, Natashia Teresa  -  Of Fergus, passed away on Thursday, December 28 th at the age of 35.

Cherished wife of Adam Toccalino, beloved daughter of Joseph and Hania Stone and doting auntie to Ivory, Roman, Memphis, David, Joseph, Cali and Zack, Natashia’s passing has profoundly saddened so many of us that were lucky enough to be received by her trademark greeting, 'Hello Friend!'

Natashia also leaves behind her two four-legged sons. Her pride and joy, Apollo and the pitiable sausage on toothpicks with a face only a mother could love, Nico.

Hillier FlorenceHILLIER, Florence Elsie (Stuckless)  -  On 27 December, 2017, we lost our mom, grandmother, 'mimi' and great-grandmother at the age of 75 at St. Mary’s Hospital. 

She was born in the fishing out port of Little Bay Islands NFLD with no electricity and no running water.  The only book she read as a child was Little Women and mom would joke that she never realized how poor she was until she left the Island. However she felt much joy and happiness growing up with her parents, brothers, sisters and extended family and always spoke fondly of this place by the sea.

She left home to make a life for herself at 16 and met our late dad Eli, who she loved and missed so much.


Kleinschmidt ElinoreKLEINSCHMIDT, Elinore Irene (Ward) (Bellerby)  -  Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at People Care A.R. Goudie Home, at the age of 94..

Elinore enjoyed Christmas Day surrounded by four generations of her family. She was the proud and loving mother of Jo Anne Watamanuk (Ken), Monty Ward (Iris), Jefferey Ward, Deborah Weavers (Arnold), Dennise Barth (Ron) and will be missed forever. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are blessed to have so many memories of Gramma. Loving step-mother to Judson Kleinschmidt (Susan) and their families.

Elinore's family will receive relatives and friends for a time of fellowship and sharing of memories on Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Common Room at 161 Fallowfield Drive, Kitchener. Cremation has taken place.

Eldridge EricELDRIDGE, Eric Stewart  -  It is with great sadness that we announce that Eric Stewart Eldridge, age 73, of Stratford, died of cancer at the Stratford General Hospital on December 27, 2017 with family at his side. Born in Windsor, Ontario, son of the late Sam and Mildred (Cowan) Eldridge of Essex, Ontario.

Beloved husband for 51 years of JoAnn (nee Totten). Loving and proud father of Steve and his wife Sharon, and grandpa of 'his favourite granddaughter' Ayden. 

Also survived by his brother Jim Eldridge (Mary) of Kingsville, his brother-in-law Joe Totten (Susan Mason) of Pickering, sister-in-law Barb Pritchard of Belle River, special cousin Ann Hyland and her husband Wayne of Cottam and several nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by brother-in-law Fred Totten and father and mother-in-law Orville and Alida Totten.

Loving mother of Cynthia Davidson (Matt Kelly), Jacob Davidson and Catherine Davidson.

Beloved daughter of Donna Davidson (nee Pushelberg) and Kenneth Davidson. Dear sister of Jeffrey and Shane (Yvonne) and cherished aunt of Wyatt and Lucy. Also fondly remembered by her grandmother Edith Pushelberg and aunts, uncles and cousins. 


Cherrey NeilCHERREY, Neil Ronald  -  At age 82, of Stratford, and formerly of Listowel, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Woodland Towers (Stratford). Born in Maryborough Township, son of the late Charles and Nelda (Campbell) Cherrey. 

Survived by his only sister Loreen Ingrey and husband Arthur of London. Neil is remembered by his nephews David Ingrey of London, William Ingrey and wife Joanne of Edmonton, a niece Lori Carter and husband David of London and a great-niece Erin Carter of London.

The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of Woodland Towers and Spruce Lodge for the wonderful care and compassion given to Neil. 


Elder EthelELDER, Ethel Mildred  -  At age 103, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Cedarcroft Place (Stratford) on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born in Elma Township, daughter of the late Alex and Lillian (Young) Broughton.

Predeceased by her husband Thomas James Elder (1980).

Much loved mother of Donald, Florence Henry, Jim (Juanita Sauve), Robert (Donna Cleaveley), Georgina (Doug Winton), John (Lauree), Liz Exley along with 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred is survived by siblings Lottie Hincks, Helen Henry, Georgina (Bob) Hennick and brother-in-law Ivan Hinz.


Silva MariaSILVA, Maria  -  With great sadness, her family announces that she passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in her 81st year.

Loving mother of Carlos (Cathy), Mary (Bill), Victoria, Albert (Vera) and Rosemary (Dinis). Cherished grandmother to Crystal (Jorge), Stephanie (Ryan), Michael (Jessica), Christopher (Tanya), Andrew (Michelle), Stacey, Vanessa (Fil) and Elisha (Rick). Proud great-grandmother to all her great-grandchildren. 

She will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters Natalia and Fernanda, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Maria is reunited with her husband Manuel (2002). 


Newton JamesNEWTON, James 'Jim' Thomas Leslie  -  No one will argue that Jim Newton was 'one of a kind'. He died peacefully on December 27th at Guelph General Hospital, due to lung complications. Minutes before his death, the nurse reported that he was busily completing his daily crossword puzzle from the KW Record. 

He was born James Thomas Leslie Newton in Niagara Falls, ON on February 5, 1940. He started his working career as a teacher in Simcoe, where he met and married the love of his life, Peg Pauls. Teaching was fun for a while, but Daddio didn’t like to stick to the curriculum. So, it was off to Zettel Manufacturing, and then Walmart. Greeting at Walmart was his dream job. Anyone that entered Fairview Park Mall knows this to be a reality. He also took great pride in newspaper delivery, and writing for the New Hamburg Independent.


Muller MildredMULLER, Mildred Doreen  -  Passed away on December 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in her 91st year.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold. 

She is survived by her children, Ann (Brian), Kim (Barbara), Nancy (Jim), seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

Doreen lived life to its fullest. She was a devoted mother, active in her church, a dedicated volunteer and was well known for her wonderful sense of humour.
