Craigen JamesCRAIGEN, James "Jim" Anthony Craigen  -  It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James (Jim) Craigen on April 6, 2024, in his 84th year.

He has rejoined his beloved wife of 58 years, Geri, after her recent passing.

Jim was born in 1940 and grew up in Tweed.

His University of Ottawa degree fueled a lifelong dedication to education.

He thrived as an English teacher and sports coach at Donevan Collegiate in Oshawa, and later as a district teacher development trainer, where he connected his research to practice.

After retirement, Jim remained active in the community through the Retired Teachers of Ontario and continued to lead training sessions worldwide.

His adventurous spirit led him to exciting opportunities: from UBC in Vancouver, to working with the Department of National Defense in Germany, and many other international locations in between. These experiences fed his outgoing personality and genuine interest in others, which endeared him to those he encountered.

Jim took great pride in staying active, be it walking, skiing, cycling, golfing, curling, or socializing with relentless exuberance. He also had a great love of theatrical and musical performances.

Family gatherings, especially annual reunions at the cottage in Tweed, were of great importance to Jim. He'd share stories and relish in the stories of others. As the oldest sibling, he was viewed as the family patriarch, leading by example with his upbeat spirit and positive approach to life's challenges.

Jim is survived by his 3 children: Suzanne (Trace), Christine (Darin), and Michael (Tara). "Grampa Jas" is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Nicola, Cam, Beth, Liam and Isaac. He will also be dearly missed by his siblings, Moe, Karen (Chas), and Mike (Gail).

A memorial visitation will be held at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558), on Thursday May 30, 2024 from 2pm - 4pm and Friday May 31 from 6pm – 8pm.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church (214 Simcoe St. N, Oshawa) on Saturday June 1, 2024 at 10:30am, followed by a reception at the church auditorium.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
