Tidy PeterTIDY, Peter Harrison  -

October 3, 1945- April 22, 2024

As an accountant, Peter Tidy’s workdays revolved around numbers, tables and figures.

But his life beyond the office has left a legacy of humour, love and most of all, family, with a story that can’t be fit into any one column.

Peter was born in Toronto to parents Gwendolyn and Arthur, and attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute for a Business certificate, then York University for a B.A. He started with Imperial Oil in what would be a career spanning more than 30 years, then moved to Pattison Sign Group for another eight years before retirement.

Ryerson would become more important to Peter than he could imagine at the time. Meeting a young woman while playing euchre, he eventually decided to work up the nerve to ask her on a date.

Showing up wearing a madras shirt, paisley sweater and herringbone slacks, his wardrobe almost made Pat go blind, yet she could still see a future with Peter. The two were married in 1969, taking a sunny honeymoon in Bermuda.

Peter and Pat would go on to build a home in Pickering, and filled that home with love and generosity as daughters Kathleen and Pamela entered their lives. Peter would be a guiding light, helping hand, enthusiastic babysitter and, most of all, a devoted father to his daughters throughout their own lives.

Beyond the family, Peter had many passions in life, both big and small. The dining table was often taken up by puzzles, and you can see pictures of his successes on his Instagram account.

Weekends were often dedicated to football, especially if the Buffalo Bills were playing.

Gardening became a passion, and his home garden became a magnificent floral oasis.

He also became a home baker, delighting his family and especially his grandsons with his cakes, cookies and other delectable wares. And perhaps his favourite place to be was the golf course, travelling around Canada and the U.S. to hit the links and enjoy some green time with Pat, Pam and his son-in-law, Stu.

Peter passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Centre surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 55 ‘glorious’ years, Patricia, and his two daughters, Kathleen Tidy (Neil) and Pamela Turpin (Stuart).

He was a dear and doting grandfather to Nolan and James (Pamela), as well as to the family dogs, Scotty (Kathleen) and Hunter (Pamela). His is also survived by his sister, Sally Anne Etherington (Ross), nephews Chris (Sally Anne), Steven and David (Ronald) and niece Wendy (Sally Anne).

He is predeceased by brother Ronald.
