SKILLEN, Roy Skillen -  Roy passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by those he loved, on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the age of 76 years.

He was the cherished husband and best friend of Lynne (nee Ashe).

Roy will always be loved and remembered by his daughters Nicola and Lisa Skillen (Trevor).

He was a beloved grandpa, affectionately known as "grumpers," to Ryan, Jessica, Connor, Abigail, and great-grandpa to Sophia, Jaxon, and Lyla.

Roy is also survived by his brother Alan, brothers-in-law Tom (Ellen), Billy (Linda), Ricky (Apple), Rodney Ashe, and sister-in-law Grace Rodgers (Jim).

Roy was born in Northern Ireland and immigrated to Canada with his wife and daughter Nicola in 1974.

He dedicated much of his life to his family and his career as a Maintenance Electrician at General Motors Oshawa for 30 years, after a short retirement he decided the ‘idle’ life was not for him and went back to work for Hydro One servicing Northern Ontario, finally taking retirement in 2014.

Beyond his professional life, Roy had a love for life and a range of hobbies. He enjoyed travel, fishing, boating, and spending time with friends & family.

His enthusiasm for these activities always brought joy to those around him. His greatest passion; however, was for football (soccer) and being a life-long supporter of Linfield FC. Nothing brought Roy more joy than to see them win on the pitch at Windsor Park in Belfast.

A memorial ceremony will be held at the Church of the Ascension Anglican, 266 North Street, Port Perry on Thursday May 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM with reception to follow in the Church Hall.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the North Durham Palliative Care Team for their exceptional support and guidance during this difficult time.
