McDermott EdwardMcDERMOTT, Edward   - Ed passed away peacefully in his 69th year, on the morning of Friday, February 16, 2018, with his cherished and loving wife Joanne at his side.

Ed and his boisterous personality will be missed by many, chief among them his two daughters, Mary-Anne and Brenda (and her husband Shawn), and their mother Rosemarie.

In his passing, he returns to the side of his youngest daughter, Michelle, whom he has missed for many years.

Ed was loved dearly by his brother, Eugene, and by both his, and his wife Joanne’s, extended families. Ed was also predeceased by his mother Anne and his father Leo.

Quick with his wit, sense of humor and clever anecdotes, Ed loved to dedicate himself to just about any conversation, from politics to travel, music to literature, history to science, and was always ready with a tidbit of knowledge to contribute.

Amongst the things Ed will miss most about the material world was sailing. He felt at home, at peace and full of joy while he was on the water, and was a hearty, seasoned seafarer through and through.

Ed led a kaleidoscopic and diverse life, which included attending St. Michael’s Choir School, earning a B.Sc. at the University of Toronto and his MBA at York University. He had a rich interest in literature and writing short stories and novellas, a fierce affection of large dogs, a sincere enthusiasm for swords and exotic artifacts, and an intense love of merriment (and Scotch, in particular).

If Ed could have told you anything, it would have been - not to worry, life and love are beautiful.

Ed’s visitation will be held at NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. Bowmanville, on Monday, February 19, 2018, from 2 pm - 4 pm.

His funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 11am, with a visitation one hour prior.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Ed’s life and our memories of him.

In lieu of flowers, Ed has asked that you consider a donation to the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
