Stott RitaSTOTT, Rita Mae (nee Riordan) - Rita Mae Stott slipped away quietly on Friday, May 18th at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa with her daughter Julie MacIver by her side after having all of her children and many of her grandchildren with her throughout the day.

Born September 5, 1926 at Oshawa, Ontario, Rita grew up in Oshawa and attended St. Gregory's School and Oshawa Collegiate High School then going on to work at the Bank of Commerce before marrying the love of her life Harold Ross Stott in January of 1948.

Rita and Harold celebrated 61 years of marriage before he predeceased her in 2009. They raised 5 children together and she is survived by all of them as well as 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul and his wife Kelly; Teresa Barlow; Daniel and his wife Carol; Anne Marie Stott Lander; Julie MacIver and her husband David; as well as all of their children and grandchildren will feel the loss of their Mother and Nana terribly and remember her tears every time they parted.

Rita came from a big Oshawa Family. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph Leo (1979) and Mariam Helen Riordan (1993) as well as two brothers Joseph and Dr. Peter Riordan and her sister Teresa Wiley. She is survived by her beloved younger brother Daniel Riordan and her sister Mariam Price. Rita will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Rita was an outstanding homemaker and mother believing that the success of her beloved husband and her children’s success in life flowed from the warmth and security of the home she made. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and family events were all made special by wonderful family meals. A tradition carried on.

Rita loved to cook, bake (her collection of Christmas cookies was legendary), make jam and preserves. She played bridge, square danced, did quilting and crafts, sailed and enjoyed travel and entertaining. Most of all she enjoyed her time at the family cottage...the place where she first met her beloved husband and where every summer she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

It was at the cottage that Rita's love of entertaining came to the fore and countless family get-togethers were celebrated including one "Big Birthday" in honour of all of the grandchildren's birthdays. Nothing gave Mom more pleasure than being with the family.

Rita was a deeply religious Roman Catholic and was very happy when she went to the Vatican. She took great inspiration from the Blessed Mother Mary and it was fitting that she passed in the month of May. Rita attended St. Gregory's Church as a child and as a adult.

The Family would like to thank the staff at Amica Whitby, especially the second floor staff for their patient help and care during a difficult period. Also wish to extend our thanks to the Dr's and staff at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa.

Special thanks to the Acute Care and Palliative Care areas for their outstanding, thoughtful efforts in easing Rita and family through Rita's last days. The family wishes to further express its gratitude to Dr. Pubben, Rita’s long-time family doctor.

Family and friends are invited to attend for visitation at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Parish, 214 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Rita to Lakeridge Health Foundation Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com.
