Grafi FrederickGRAFI, Frederick Bela  -1929  Passed peacefully at Richview Manor Retirement Residence on August 28, 2018.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Fred was the son of the Colonel Fredric Grafi and Marta Grafi (nee) Juhasz.

Fred was the beloved and dedicated husband to the late Susan Boulton Wadsworth Grafi for 49 years and loving father to Geoffrey Denton, Philip Denton, Sandra Denton, Vanessa Grafi-Maynard and Eric Grafi, as well as beloved father-in-law to Ruth Ann (Bunny) Denton, Marnie Souter Denton, Deb Briggs, David Maynard and Alison Tasker.

Fred was the loving grandmother of Samuel Denton, William Denton, Melonie Adams, Meg Denton, Fraser Denton, Jack Denton, Jonathan Ramsden, Ailish Maynard, Rein Maynard, Olivia Grafi and Hannah Grafi.

Fred and his father escaped communist Hungary in 1948. After spending several months in an Austrian intern camp they immigrated to Argentina and then to Canada in 1952.

His mother, who remained in Hungary was able to reunite with her family in Canada in 1968.

As a result of his world travels, Fred was fluent in 5 languages. After working for the City of Toronto for 8 years he attended the University of Toronto. And then, with his father, an Olympic champion Equestrian, founded The Maple Equestrian Centre. Fred was an accomplished equestrian instructor for most of his adult life and was invited to judge for the 1976 summer Olympics in Montreal.

Fred was very dedicated to service in his community, including The Woodbridge Rotary Club, the Kleinburg Binder Twine Festival and most recently with Richview Manor's Strides for Stroke initiative supporting Mackenzie Health.

For the last few years Fred resided at Richview Manor in Richmond Hill where his true spirit was able to shine. He made many new friends and received the best of care.

A service will take place at St. James Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 (Bloor St. and Parliament St., Toronto). Friends are warmly welcomed to join the family for refreshments following the service at Longchamps Pub in Kleinburg (10512 Islington Ave.) from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.

The family will make a donation through Richview Manor to support their fundraising efforts for Mackenzie Health, Heart & Stroke Foundation.
