Marshall JohnMARSHALL, John Allan  - August 14, 1944 - October 19, 2018

On October 19, 2018, we said goodbye to our Dad, our Papa, our father-in-law, our uncle, our brother, our friend, and the love of Mom's life.

It was timed perfectly to avoid making a decision in the upcoming municipal election.

While leading a successful and rich 38-year career in urban planning, John lived his motto of "Family First" - his children and Ellen were his number one priority.

He was an unbelievable father to Jenn (Bob), Dave (Ang), Ian (Amanda), Deb (Ryan) and Amanda (Jay) and exceedingly proud of them. He loved, encouraged, mentored, coached and cheered them on as they grew up, sharing in their accomplishments. Each year his kids crafted Father's Day presents in school, consisting of (mostly horrendous) paper weights, coasters, mugs, etc.

To our amazement, John kept ALL of them proudly displayed in his office. He was an active grandfather, a beloved "Papa" to Indigo, Alex, Max, Cassie, Kaleigh, Isabelle, Beau and Chloe. John was incredibly positive with an unmatched enthusiasm for life, there was no such thing as a gloomy day when around him.

His competitive spirit truly pushed him, and everyone around him, to strive to be their best.

Our hearts ache, but we cherish all the lessons he has taught us (including a love for wine and beer), all the confidence he has instilled in us, and a love for life (and an appreciation of terrible jokes).

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate his life. Please tip a glass to his memory.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, consider a donation to the Townsend-Smith Foundation to help fund a Hospice in Milton, Ontario.
