PICKERSGILL, Maureene - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Maureen Pickersgill (nee Clark), in Toronto on April 18, 2024.
Born in Utica, New York, Maureen began her career as a producer of the CBS Evening News alongside the iconic Walter Cronkite.
She met her future husband, Frank, on a ski vacation in Colorado, and at 29, left her career at CBS and moved to Canada to begin a life with him.
When Maureen discovered that her daughter, Cassie, had special needs, she transitioned her career to focus on supporting agencies that help those with disabilities.
She spent her later career working at the Speech Foundation of Ontario, followed by the Ontario Speech Language Association. She was a tireless advocate for Cassie and others with special needs.
Maureen is survived by her husband of 44 years, Frank; her daughters, Cassie and Meg (Michael); stepdaughters, Kristin (Dave) and Sara (Andrew); and stepson, Andrew (Stephanie). She was an adoring grandmother to Sam, Georgia, Charlotte, Lucy, Josh, Charlie, Will, and Oscar.
She also leaves behind her sisters, Dennise (George) and Sheila (Pam); sisters-in-law, Clare (Rudy) and Lindsay; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her brother, Philip; and her brother-in-law, Bruce.
Maureen's warmth, generosity, and infectious laughter will be missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 30th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto in Maureen's honour.
