Proctor DiannePROCTOR, Dianne  - Educator, Entrepreneur, Founder and Friend Dianne passed away at home on December 9, 2017, in her 78th year, surrounded by family, her sister Gloria, and her beloved Joe.

She leaves this world too soon, but her enduring legacy will be Newton's Grove School and the many students and teachers whose lives have been touched and shaped by her strength and vision.

Dianne grew up in Bond Head and entered the teaching profession early in life.

Recognising a need, Dianne left the school board in 1977 to form her own school, aimed at assisting students who had trouble learning to read or write.

That first year, she had one student whom she taught in a church basement. Undaunted, she developed her own curricula and her school began to grow. Dianne's program stressed the three Rs, reason, respect and responsibility, and began attracting students of all abilities who responded to her disciplined and challenging approach.

As the first private school in Mississauga, Dianne aptly named it Mississauga Private School. The school then moved to its first permanent home in Meadowvale, offering classes from kindergarten to grade eight, and soon outgrew that location. Despite the name, the school moved to Etobicoke where it continued to grow for the next twenty years, adding the high school division in the early nineties.

When Dianne retired and sold the school in 2008, MPS was a thriving institution of over 300 students, having produced hundreds of successful graduates. The school Dianne founded is currently in its 40th year, renamed Newton's Grove School, having just returned to Mississauga to a beautiful campus on Paul Coffey Park.

Dianne leaves behind her husband, Joe Salcak, and her remaining sister, Gloria Riley, having been predeceased by her sisters June Catania and Natalie Daniels. Her only child, William, passed away in 2006. She is dearly missed by her nephew, Paul Catania and his wife, Susan.

A celebration of her life is planned for Monday, December 18th from 6 to 9 p.m. at Turner Porter Peel Chapel at 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga.

People will be invited to speak and share memories between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Anyone who knew Dianne and all who have benefitted from her wonderful legacy as an Educator are invited to attend.

Dianne loved gardening, and a memorial garden will be planted in her name at the new campus of the school she founded and loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dianne Proctor Memorial Garden Fund at Newton's Grove School.
