Liber DorothyLIBER, Dorothy  - August 22, 1929 - December 15, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann Liber.

Born August 22, 1929 in Toronto to the late Mykola and Maria Liber.

Predeceased by her sister Olga Stanko, survived by brother-in-law Steve Stanko and longtime companion Steve Yonka.

Loving aunt to Kathy Hamara, John Stanko (Elena) and the late Stephen Stanko (late Lesia).

Adoring grandaunt to Christine (Steve), Jules, Michael, Talia and Stephanie. Great-aunt to Zoe. Aunt Dorothy, as she was known to many, was a strong-willed, independent woman ahead of her time. Highly opinionated, Dorothy forged her own path in life. Her dedication and attention to detail served her well as an executive assistant in advertising. She happily indulged her niece and nephews in fine dining, fashion and the arts.

As a young woman, Dorothy ventured from the expanses of rural Scarborough to downtown Toronto to join family and friends at the Ukrainian National Home, participating in theatre productions promoting Ukrainian culture. Later, she became an active member of St. Vladimir Institute, serving as a member of the board of directors and as a chair of the Odessa Pavillion during Toronto International Caravan.

Despite a long battle with MS, Dorothy remained positive and dedicated to both family and community. Special thanks to the staff at UCCC for their kindness and support. Friends may call at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St., Toronto, on Tuesday, December 19th from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Panachyda 7:30 p.m. Orthodox Rite of Funeral will be held at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre Chapel, 60 Richview Road, Toronto, on Wednesday, December 20th at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre or a charity of your choice.
