James Dr PeterJAMES, Dr. H. Peter  - Peacefully on December 26, 2017 Peter passed away at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL at the age of 83.

He was the beloved husband of his devoted wife, Jane, who was always by his side.

And a loving father to Maureen (Patrick), the late Theresa, Michael (Laurel) and Joseph (Urszula) and a devoted and proud Grampa to Matthew, Lukas, Sophia and Jakub.

Peter was born September 1, 1934 in Almonte, Ontario; the first child of the late Carmel and C. Hilliard James. He was raised in a dynamic and loving home in Toronto with his siblings: the late Muriel Bickerton, Margaret Markson (the late Joseph), Dr. Walter James, Sarah James, Mary Jane Markle, Honorable Justice Joseph James (Mary Jane) and John James (Irene) who he loved very much.

Peter graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1959 and interned at St. Michael's Hospital. He then worked at Scarborough General under his mentor Dr. Paul McGoey. In 1966 he completed his fellowship in Orthopaedic surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. Shortly thereafter moved to Rockville, MD where he opened a successful medical practice.

Peter returned to Toronto in 1972 eventually joining the staff at the Orthopaedic & Arthritic Hospital at which he became an esteemed and renowned knee surgeon, specializing in the treatment and prevention of sports injuries – he loved the phrase, "motion is lotion."

He proudly travelled to Russia in 1987 as team doctor with Team Canada for The World Ice Hockey Championships. Dr. James' medical career continued in Buffalo, NY where he once again opened a flourishing clinic The Knee Center of Western NY and was a member of the medical team for the Buffalo Sabres.

After retiring in 1999 he and Jane moved to Sarasota where they enjoyed the beach, golfing and spending time with his beloved children and grandsons. A special joy for him was volunteering at his grandsons' elementary school. He enjoyed tennis, skating, skiing, music, hosting family parties, engaging in meaningful conversation and travelled the world extensively.

But above all, he valued family and cherished every moment he could be with those he loved. Peter was brilliant, generous and strong.

He possessed a keen sense of humour and respected people from all walks of life. He was loved and admired by his many Burns, Colton and James cousins, Alejandro Ortega, his nieces, nephews and their children and his friend and mother to his children Merlyn.

Remembered fondly by Jane's children and grandchildren. Scott (Debbie), Suzanne (Grant), Craig (Jade), Dylan, Alexander Mark, Christopher, Jonathan and Joshua. We will all miss him greatly.

His wishes were to have a celebration of his life together as a family at a later date in Toronto.
