Travers VincentTRAVERS, Vincent  - April 2, 1927 - January 1, 2018

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father.

Dad died peacefully on New Year's Day at The Houses of Providence in his 91st year after a long and courageous journey.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his daughter Anne-Marie and husband Brian McWatters; his son Michael and wife Anne; and his granddaughters Katie and Elisabeth McWatters, Carolyn and Claire Travers and grandson Paddy Travers.

He was predeceased by Aldegonde, his loving wife of 62 years; his son D'Arcy; and daughter Mary Louise. Among those who will mourn his passing are his siblings Loretta, Theresa, Celie and Michael, in addition to their spouses and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

The second of eight children born to Frank and Margaret Travers, Dad was also predeceased by brothers Leo, Gerald and Brian. In addition to being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Dad was proud of his lifelong career on the railroad, retiring from VIA in 1992 after more than four decades of service.

One his fondest memories was being chosen as the conductor for the royal train in 1984, a job for which he received the highest commendation. The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dad's loyal and dedicated private caregivers Daisy, Marilyn and Charlene, as well as many staff caregivers, in particular Jasmarine and Maxine, and the nurses at The Houses of Providence, for their kind and compassionate care.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, January 5 at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 at St. Edward The Confessor, 75 Churchill Ave., in Willowdale, where Mom and Dad were parishioners since 1967. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, the family would welcome donations to The Houses of Providence.
