Evans BettyEVANS, Betty (nee WILLIAMS)  - Betty died on June 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family, in her 88th year.

She was the devoted wife of Gareth for over 64 years, and mother to Sian, Ceri (Michele) and Hywel.

Doting grandmother to Beth, Katy, Owain and Robin.

She also will be dearly missed by her sister Marian and numerous family and friends in Wales and Canada.

Betty was born and raised in Tonyrefail, Wales and trained as a schoolteacher, developing her teaching skills at Croesyceiliog School while living in Cwmbran.

After she moved to Canada in 1967 with the immediate family, she took a pause from teaching, preferring to focus on building a home for the family in the new environment of St. Bruno, Quebec.

After a somewhat disorienting couple of years in Memphis, Tennessee, Betty and family moved back to Canada in 1975. Betty then took up employment as an administrator in the Ontario civil service, striking fear into anyone who dared try to claim for excessive expenses.

In her retirement she settled into a very agreeable lifestyle of caring for her grandchildren, travelling and cruising with longtime friends and following Coronation Street. Those who knew her were always surprised at how such a strength of character and will was captured in a frame barely 5 feet tall.

She was resolutely devoted to family and never lost sight of her roots, or her faith. Her family remembers her as a remarkable woman.

A memorial service for Betty will be held at Dewi Sant Welsh United Church, 33 Melrose Ave., Toronto at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28th, followed by a private cremation.

Further commemoration of Betty's life will be held in Wales at a later date.

If desired, remembrances can be made through donations to the Dewi Sant Church, where Betty was a devoted member for many years, or to the Neurological Trauma Unit of St. Michael's Hospital.
