HUTCHEON, Emily Victoria Hutcheon

HUTCHEON, Emily Victoria   – Obituaries should be reserved for the old and palliative.

Emily Victoria Hutcheon (born October 15, 1993) was neither of those things.

She died October 7, 2023, just shy of her 30th birthday.

But don’t let the short time on this earth deceive you; she left a large impact and a gaping hole in all those whose lives she touched. Emily came into this world on her own terms with her flaming red hair.

She was a force of nature from the moment she arrived.

Em, as she was known to family and friends, was bright and opinionated with the ability to have in-depth and thought-provoking conversations. She was passionate about animals, taking in strays and volunteering at the local animal shelter (Alliston and District Humane Society).

After graduating from St. Lawrence College in Journalism, she worked freelance for the Cornwell Free Press. She has published several books including: The Alternative Lives of Mike Samuels; Chasing Moths; Catching Moths; It’s Okay To Not Be Okay; Don’t Fight Write; The Truth Behind Skinny; and A Slow Goodbye. Two of her books, The Truth Behind Skinny and It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, have specifically been used as mental health training resources.

Emily was at her happiest in nature, especially at the cottage on Manitoulin Island. The Island was her “Happy Place” and where she will be interred. Emily will be sorely missed by her family: Annette Hutcheon, David Hutcheon, Cathy Hutcheon, Sarah Hutcheon, Dan Collins, Ainsley and Hailey Collins, Tom, James and Noel Anderson.
