FLEGEL, Edwin Flegel

Passed away on May 29, 2026 surrounded and supported by his entire family.  Ed was predeceased by his parents Martin and Emilie Flegel.  He was a good brother to sisters Adeline (passed 2026) and Edna.

Ed was married for 70 years to the love of his life, Anna Flegel.  His three girls, Cindy (Roy), Cheryl (Lori) and Dalene (Greg) were blessed to have been raised by such a wonderful father and cheerleader.  He was quite simply the best of the best!  His grandsons Brett, Evan, Connor and Gavin enjoyed creating many memories with their Papa.  Gavin has been eagerly awaiting Papa’s arrival in heaven, and he will have secured skybox tickets for the Blue Jays!

Edwin was delivered into this world by Grandma Schneider on the farm in Briercrest, SK in 1931.  It was there he met his bride, Anna, at Briercrest High School.  They married in Moose Jaw on November 5, 1955, farmed briefly, then settled in Edmonton, AB to raise their family.  Quick-witted, generous and full of life, Edwin was a true gentleman who always put others first.  Remarkably ingenious, he could invent or fix anything.  A man of many passions, he filled his life with sport, adventure, travel, and creativity and taught his children to do the same.  He cherished his family, his friends and his years running Dutch Lake Motel and Campground in Clearwater, BC with Anna, his devoted partner. Active and agile well into his later years, he and Anna were known as “the kids” at Hawthorn Park—always on the go, always hand in hand.  A true Flegel man; a man of his word, with a big heart and open arms.  Edwin passed peacefully, surrounded by family. What a beautiful long life lived well.

A Memorial Service will be held will be held for Edwin on FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM (PDT), at Springfield Funeral Home​, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service; a recording will be made available to view in 3-5 days.

Interment will follow on a later date.
