MCEACHEN, Leanne Elizabeth McEachen
November 22, 1965 - July 27, 2026
With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, the McEachen family announces the passing of Leanne McEachen on July 27, 2026.
Leanne was the beloved daughter of Bryan and Diane McEachen of Whitby, Ontario, and the cherished sister of Paul (Stephanie) and Maryellen (Brian). She was a special aunt to Sydney (Lucas), Reagan, James (Danielle), and Rachel (Greg) and great-aunt to Hannah and Adam, who showed her great kindness. She was predeceased by her treasured twin sister, Laura, on March 27, 2026, and by her father, Bryan. Throughout her life, Lorraine (Kirk) loved and cared for Leanne as a sister, and her devotion was a gift to the entire McEachen family. The bond between Leanne and her Mom, was extraordinary. For 60 years, her Mom was her constant companion, tireless advocate, and devoted caregiver.
Among those who held a special place in Leanneβs heart was Mrs. Inez Curl, a cherished family friend and relentless advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities. Through Curlβs advocacy, Leanne thrived at Aldon School, graduated as a member of the schoolβs final graduating class, marking the close of an important chapter in the history of education for children with developmental disabilities in Durham Region. Leanne also enjoyed evening classes with retired teacher volunteers, Jean, Phyllis and Mary Jo, where she found learning and community. In 2012, Leanne became an inaugural member of the Whitby Abilities Centre, an inclusive community where people of all abilities come together to participate in sports, recreation, education and life-skills programs. There, she embraced new experiences and built lasting friendships within a welcoming community.
Leanne loved the Leafs. Her unwavering devotion sparked a lifelong rivalry with her father, a devoted Canadiens fan, and her cousin Mel, a passionate Ottawa Senators supporter. Her siblings spoiled her with Blue Jays, Raptors, hockey games, and Ice Capades outings. An avid horse racing fan, she celebrated her 60th birthday party with her twin sister, Laura, at Woodbine Racetrack. Leanne was always happy going somewhere, with frequent trips to Collingwood and California, time in Ireland, and a Kelowna family trip to Big White. The highlight of her year was celebrating Canada Day at the Ottawa family cottages, watching cousin Craigβs annual fireworks display. Leanne loved celebrations of all kinds, from sporting events to fireworks to Disney parades. She especially loved her birthday and never missed a chance to tell everyone when it was hers.
One of Leanneβs greatest joys was her beloved dog, Buddy. She loved sharing her bed with him, petting him and playing fetch. Buddy remained faithfully by her side, bringing her happiness and comfort.
Leanne was blessed to be surrounded by an exceptional care team. Laurie, Leah, Sandra, and Cindy filled her days with kindness, laughter, and love. Even in her toughest moments, they brought joy to Leanne every day. The family also extends a special thank you to Cecile Butt, whose tireless advocacy ensured Leanne and her Mom always had the supportive team needed. The McEachen family will always be deeply grateful for the love, compassion, and devotion they all showed Leanne.
Leanne was the heart and soul of the McEachen family, an unwavering source of joy whose enthusiasm brightened every gathering and celebration. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed every day by her devoted family and friends.
